The End of Privacy in the Digital Age by Terri Williams (September 19, 2012)

Title:

How private are we now?

First Impression:

My first impression about this is that there is very little privacy over the internet because of social media, the internet of things, P2P, tracking and many more.

Quote:

"The birth of the digital age has given rise to unprecedented levels of information and communication at unparalleled speeds of access."

Reflection Proper:

When we talk about privacy we think of the things that we do not want others to know like bad habits or when you are taking a dump. But in today’s digital age, privacy is beginning to not exist. First of all most of almost half of the people on the world has access to the internet which connects people everywhere. Second now that social media are a trend, all of us post updates of ourselves whenever something happens to us. Not only us but people who we know post some information that they have an interest to even if they don’t know the person like people sharing in Facebook or retweet in Twitter. With all of the information present, there is but little privacy that we have. Today when most of the cameras we have in our phones can take pictures or videos of something random, information can get easily obtained. For example, a person was able to take videos of police officer who is breaking the law, he or she can report it to the officials to take down that corrupt officer. We can see that information can help in solving many things. On the other hand you can also be restricted in a way wherein companies includes this in your contract with them that you should not badmouth  or ruin the company’s reputation through social media when you ae working with them. With that some companies even track your social media account to ensure that you are doing nothing to ruin the company’s image. Frankly the lesson that we should all learn here is not to post anything you do now want other people to see or use against you.

5 Things That I've learned (List down 5 things that you've learned from the article)

1. I learned that information has its pros and cons.

2. The digital age has less and less privacy.

3. People have no idea when the post they share or retweet is going to have a lot of issue

4. Companies have these applications that can track your social media account.

5. Think before you post something in the internet.

5 Integrative Questions

1. What do you think of the past when information is not easy to obtain?

2. How will you react when there is someone stalking your every move in Facebook or Twitter?

3. What do you think will happen when there is no privacy left?

4. Do you think that it is better when information is present of not?
